Back Up August Programming

I know we said that we're concentrating on weekly rather than monthly events, but I thought I'd throw in a back up idea for August.

As an extension of the Film series started in April (aka sustainability), the week of August 13 (Alfred Hitchcock's birthday)could be:

Get Out of the Heat and Hitch a Few Chills Film Festival

Monday: Monday is for The Birds
Tuesday: North by Northwest Tuesday
Wednesday: Rear Window Wednesday
Thursday: Vertigo Thursday
Friday: Psycho Friday

Since Wednesday would be Hitchcock's birthday, this would be a great opportunity for a speaker (lunchtime or evening).

Branches could participate as they wish (maybe even showing some of the "lesser" Hitch films.

Participants could include the Angelika and River Oaks theater. It would be nice to also do a tie-in with the Alley Theatre's yearly "Summer of Chills" series, but I think that's over by the end of July.

Addendum to August Dog Days Event

Longevity/Sustainability: While it is hoped that the Dog Day at the Library would become an annual event, this is really a kick-off for the Dog-Earred Book Club. Depending on the success of the program and the willingness of the therapy dog volunteers, we can take several routes:
  1. A month of Saturday Dog-Earred Book Clubs at Central with once a month Dog-Earred Book Clubs rotating at Branches throughout the year.
  2. The kick-off Dog-Earred Book Club at Central with once a month Dog-Earred Book Clubs rotating at Branches throughout the year.
  3. The kick-off Dog-Earred Book Club at Central with once a month Book Clubs continuing to meet at Central and satellite Book Clubs once a month either permanently at certain Branches or rotating from Branch to Branch.

There is a lot of flexibility in the sustainability of this program and its inclusion in the Branches. Much will depend on how many therapy dog volunteers we can procure and their schedules, as well as how many Branches wish to participate and at what depth.
